This private residence called Martha’s Vineyard is located on the island of the same name, at the southeast of Massachusetts (the USA). It draws attention with its “green” technologies and ecology-friendly materials. The project`s author is the well-known Charles Rose Architects company. This house has 400 sq. meters and is located on the hill; this was reflected in the building`s architecture. It has two levels. There is one story at the upper part of the hill, whereas its lower part contains two stories. The main construction material is natural wood.
There are solar batteries on the roof; they provide this residence with electric power. Apart from that there is a special system of rainwater collection and purification, as well as natural air ventilation. Only ecology-friendly materials were used for thermal insulation of the premises. Large glazed area of the building provides plenty of natural light to the premises. The outstanding green roof draws plenty of attention, as it has the equipped marvelous terrace for a family rest. The roof is a viewing platform at the same time; it provides the outstanding view on the Atlantic Ocean. But the most important thing is that it creates healthy microclimate inside the house by conserving heat during the cold days and creating coolness and freshness at hot summer times.
