The house in Asten is composed of bricks, has windows of various sizes, a high inclined roof, wooden coverings and beams and is a typical dwelling of a rural farmer, which used to unite both the family and cows under the same roof in the opposite sides of extend building. It was decided to turn this construction into the apartments in accordance with a modern trend, yet keeping the lines of the previous times.

However, the architect company which specializes in the reconstruction of old farmer’s houses, suggested the planning solution, which was far from the best. The lightest rooms of the first floor were somehow occupied by bathrooms, whereas one was placed right behind big open-wide doors at the façade, which initially led to the stables. Therefore, Doret Schulkes, being invited for interior decoration, has started the work with creation of more logical and comfortable interior structure.

The library and office zone have occupied the territory of the first floor, on the place of former residential rooms and kitchen. Social zone was created on the place of former stables with small windows, whereas two new big windows in the roof helped to fill the zone with natural light.

Bathrooms gave place to the dining room and now it is the meeting point of the family members during the day hours. Moreover, the bathrooms have been transferred under the roof of the second floor, in close neighborhood with two more bedrooms.

Doret highlighted the natural advantages of the house and therefore left open the most expressive parts of coverings, internal part of the roof with massive unsmooth beams and ceiling planking, yet has plastered the neighboring zones. The walls were renovated in the same way: some of zones demonstrate open brickwork, whereas free standing wooden pillars-columns have emphasized natural color of rural life.

Floors were faced with practical stone tiles. Walk-though spaces, which unite all premises of the first floor, were left  unchanged at the furniture arrangement. Thus, the designer helped to combine vivid rural charm and modern interior by following the ergonomics concepts.
