Spanish architects Jesús Olivares and Miguel Rodenas from COR studio have reconstructed the one-room apartment of 50 sq. meters, located in Alicante. They set modern utility systems there and planned the space to be as comfortable for people and opened as possible.
The apartment is located at the house of 1987 year, which is one of many twin-houses with one-room apartment, constructed in big numbers at this part of the city. The dwelling is close to the sea and its balcony overlooks the sea as well.
The architects have constructed new heating system (pipes with hot water in the floor; the may be filled with the cold water in summer and thus may cool the room), coloured lighting and audiosystem. The balcony was adjoined to the apartment or better to say, the apartment was adjoined to the balcony. The wall, which used to be between them, was removed and the balcony was glassed in away, which allows to remove the frames in summer. At the warm weather the apartment is turned into the deep stanza, opened to the seaside. Functional elements (kitchen, furniture) are located like “islands” and thus provide people with freedom of moves.
It`s interesting to note, that Jesús Olivares and Miguel Rodenas founded COR architect bureau (Consultoría de Recursos Creativos) in 2006. They both live and work in Alicante and both received the degree at the local university.
